Split the Ice apart and Break the Frozen Heart. The Heavy voiced song has always been in the back of my mind since 2013 and finally another movie.
The thought of a Sequel could thaw out any number of Frozen hearts around us. We must admit, there is an imperative need for Feel Good movies like Frozen in our lives.
Though looming in the shadows is the dread of a Sequel, be that of any movie that you loved. You enter the theatre, all excited but also there is a nervous itch in the pit of your stomach that says this one isn't going to be as good enough.
I loved the first movie, it was a totally different concept in the Disney franchise. It paved a New and Bright Feminist road and we finally had A Queen and not just a Princess and that too without the Need for a King.
( SPOILER WARNING - ICE AHEAD ! )
Let's start by applauding Disney for Persistence. They have kept at their thing, at their pace and been relevant through the ever-changing times. Always coming out at the better end of Criticism.
Hence,
The following are THE THINGS FROZEN 2 GOT RIGHT -
1) FEMINIST AGENDA -
Frozen is a Landmark movie that has brought on a Paradigm Shift in the Animated World of Disney, breaking away from the 'Forever Night in Shining Armor Will Save the Day and the Girl'.
I mean have you ever noticed that most of the Fairytales are FEMALE-ORIENTED, and the "Prince" always has a short cameo in the end. You would think that that's enough for furthering the Feminist Movement. But in the end, the message always came down to the idea of THE WOMAN being saved or given IDENTITY because of A MAN, who comes to save her in the end.
Well Frozen gave us a Unique Queen, not just Independent but also Cursed, mirroring actual struggles a woman has to face in the world alone. When nobody wants to/ has to/ needs to understand her. Her problems should be put in a box and shut away.
'CONCEAL, DON'T FEEL'
How many times have we heard that exactly, in our everyday lives as Women?
'Don't make it about you'
'If you are Different, Hide it well, or you'll be shunned'
OSTRACIZED was my Middle Name for the longest time. But times have changed. We as a society have progressed. We are more of a People now and not just Man and Woman. And Cinema has Progressed with us and even paved the way for change.
2) THE SISTER-BOND IS STILL STRONG. NO SIBLING RIVALRY HERE -
Elsa and Anna's bond is one of the most genuine depictions of a Sister Bond that has ever graced the Cinematic Screen. The ever loving devotion of Anna towards her sister who she hardly ever sees in the first movie is beyond amazing. That girl has her priorities straight. She knows that the most important thing in her life is her sister and not even the Undying Love of a Man can change this Permanent Fact in her mind. Elsa, too has a similar devotion to her sister but she has a 180° view on What is Best for Her Sister.
Where, on one hand, Anna believes in STICKING TOGETHER, Elsa thinks it's best for her sister to STAY AWAY from her.
No matter what the Way of it, the Sentiment is the same.
3) THE SONGs -
Music has always been the strong suit of Disney. They make the most ethereal and amazing music ever. Everybody knows the phenomena that was 'LET IT GO'. It set the whole world on Fire, I mean Ice, I actually mean Bonkers. The song could be heard playing everywhere.
Frozen 2 doesn't disappoint in this matter too.
Into The Unknown
The Next Right Thing
All Is Found
4) OLAF -
Oh Olaf ! My dear Olaf ! Don't think I didn't notice Your Own Personal Yet Missing Flurry.
The Little, Naive, Optimistic Snowman or should I say, Snowboy, is the Brightest Ray of Sunshine (Pardon the Paradox) in the movie. And the Only evidence that there is more to Elsa's Powers than meets the Eye. It's a shame they didn't explore this, potential LIFE-GIVING Power of hers.
5) THE WATER HORSE, LATER THE FROZEN HORSE -
OKAY, SO NOW LET'S LOOK AT ALL, THAT FROZEN 2 GOT WRONG -
1) A WEAK & NON EXCITING BACK STORY -
I just cannot wrap my head around the back story, Three generations just caught up in an elaborate plan to keep the Magical Beings in a confined place and prevent any chance at Mingling with them. People always fear the things they can't understand and Magic is one of those things.
But the whole Grandfather was wicked and thus Grand-daughter was Cursed/Gifted with magic, it just doesn't do enough for me.
I expected something more, something that would do Frozen 1 justice. I know it's a Feel Good movie, but............
The worst part for me is that this essentially means that Elsa is A Spirit and not really Anna's sister. For me it felt like somehow Elsa was shunned out, maybe that's me going a bit too far. But she has gone to live in the forest for Frozen Sakes. I don't like the separation.
2) THE PLOT DOES NOT CONNECT THE FIRST AND THE SECOND MOVIE PROPERLY -
2013 to 2019, that is a long ass time to write a plot, to create a whole Frozen Universe, the most magical of them all. But there wasn't much connection between the two movies so as to bring GOOSEBUMPs on the viewer's skin when the dots finally connected in the end.
3) FORCED DIVERSITY -
Okay, so Disney has always found itself wrapped up in controversy for not showing enough diversity.
I beg to differ though, I mean who do you think made Aladdin and Pocahontas.
But still, I get that people want to see all People getting represented in a Single Movie and that is how it should be.
But inserting characters here and there, just to make reperations for the past movie is distasteful and actually disrespectful.
I just can't give Disney a pass on this one, I mean Frozen part 1 came out in 2013, that is not prehistoric times. They should have been woke enough to include people of all races, orientations and cultures even back then.
In my opinion, KRISTOFF SHOULD HAVE BEEN BLACK.
Exactly how many people are there on Disney's Payroll? None of them had the sense to tell Disney this back in 2013. It's unfathomable to me.
4) HOW FROZEN FAILED KRISTOFF, HE DID NOT GET THE SCREEN TIME HE DESERVED -
Kristoff is a very interesting character. Unfortunately Frozen 2 did not do him justice.
My first point is that his ORIGIN STORY could also have been explored in this movie. We don't know who his parents were or where he came from. All we know is that the Trolls adopted him.
His psychic connection with Sven, could have been the result of a bit of magic too but alas, nothing of that sort was told in the story.
My second point is that the film's Feminist Agenda drowned Kristoff' character. His screen time was short. He didn't really have a story line except for him just really ONLY EXISTING FOR ANNA. All he did in the movie was wait on her, scared of loosing her, proposing to her.
Doesn't that become similar to how women have been portrayed in the movies for so long. As a sideline character. One that only exists for another Main Stream Character.
I as a Woman, did not feel comfortable watching Kristoff like that.
So that's my take on What Frozen got Right and Wrong This Time Around. How about you guys? Comment below, on your take regarding the same.
Well, a good cartoon that is worth a look, and the songs are beautiful there, although to everyone there is their own, of course, I’m watching everything here https://xmovies8-hd.net/ I like this site very straight
