Sonny Corleone's Mistake That Almost Got His Father Killed in GODFATHER 1972

I'll make you an argument you can't rebut. I know the discussion about Godfather has mainly been about Vito and Michael Corleone. The charm about how a family member who had almost escaped the bounds of the Family Business, has to ultimately go back to his roots when it becomes certain that everything would collapse if he did not take the reins now.

But nobody seems to care about the mistake that got them into all this mess in the first place.

SONNY - The oldest one and also the most unstable one. They say that the oldest sibling is always an eccentric yet responsible person. But he had a lethal trait of also being Very Short Tempered and very Quick to Answer. Basically, he doesn't think before he utters anything.

I mean I get it, you are a COOL GUY.


But there's no place for a Cool Guy in the Mafia Business, where a Single Smirk at the wrong time will get you killed. Or worse, in Sonny's case, will get your father shot at multiple times. And ruin any chance your little brother ever had, of making it out of the Family Abyss.

I talk of the time when Sollozzo comes to meet The Godfather about his Narcotics business. It is clearly apparent that The Godfather is not interested in the business as it would mean creating new enemies, losing political connections, as " Drugs is a Dirty Business "

And at this time Sonny speaks up, making his feelings apparent, that if The Turk and the Tattaglia family can truly provide protection to their family, then he would be interested in the Narco Business.

This statement is Deadly, because the only solution that comes out of this problem is that eliminate the man who is against this new venture, and the person next in line to become the head ( who has shown that he IS INTERESTED in the new business ) would eventually do what is right for BUSINESS - such a monetarily lucrative at that.
And we cannot deny that " The Turk " had made an almost full-proof plan, what with eliminating LUCA-BRAZI - The Sweet Guy Hitman, with The Tattaglia's doing his bidding,


By the way, Pauli - The Driver's absence was a RED-FLAG. I cannot fathom why Don Vito didn't think much of it.
Because once in a while, comes an OVER-CONFIDENT, NARCISSISTIC MAN like The Turk. Someone who is Delusional and Underestimates the Change that can happen to any Circumstance.

coming ahead and taking charge. Also, Sonny would never do business with a man who had attempted to kill his father in the name of Business.

This is a great example of how just a single flare of audacity can ruin everything. Keeping mum at the appropriate time can be the biggest superpower.
